The Journey
Like most individuals, I was first introduced to the wonderful properties of clay when I was a toddler. The beautiful colors, textures and malleability of one of Nature’s oldest and greatest gifts sent my little creative spirit on a never ending journey of artistic expression. I learned early that those incredible images in my mind were far more difficult to translate into reality. My childhood attempts at replicating the image of my favorite dog were just as likely to end up appearing as a buffalo or other hapless creature the victim of some unsightly genetic malformation. In spite of these early failures, and with the encouragement of many friends and family members, I have continued to pursue my creative quests over seven decades with the same difficulties in translating those beautiful cerebral images into recognizable and acceptable forms in clay.
I have long been fascinated with the cave and rock art of our prehistorical artists of the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods and especially small figurines such as the Venus of Willendorf and members of her extended family found around the world. I also love many of the sculptures of the Art Deco period of the early 20th Century. Much of my inspiration is drawn from these diverse periods as well as a smattering from those sandwiched in between. And, like my prehistoric artistic brethren, most of my primitive works are small and portable, generally three to ten inches in size.
This site, along with my works, is constantly evolving as the journey continues.
